Marbury resident James Stephen Gass, Jr., 32, was sentenced to 25 years in prison with 13 years to serve for shooting into an occupied home in June 2022.
Shortly after 12:30 a.m. on July 2, 2022, prosecutors say that several bullets were recovered from inside a home, fired by Gass, who was prohibited from possessing weapons due to previous convictions.
No injuries were reported, but property was damaged during the incident.
Gass also found himself in hot water in Charles County last year, when he cut off an electronic monitoring device and attempted to attack people, according to officials.
"(Gass) was prohibited from possessing firearms due to prior criminal convictions, yet continued to illegally do so," St. Mary's County State's Attorney Jaymi Sterling said.
"His dangerous actions could have created large-scale harm to our community due to his total disregard for human life when he brazenly opened fire at an occupied residence and a nearby vehicle."
